Joseph Pilates developed his method, originally called Contrology, in the early 1900s. He worked with injured soldiers, boxers, athletes and dancers, using controlled movement and specialised exercises to improve strength, flexibility, balance and body control.
After moving to New York, Joseph and his wife Clara Pilates opened a studio where they became particularly well known for working with professional dancers, helping them build strength and recover from injuries.
Over time, Pilates grew from a rehabilitation and conditioning method into the widely practiced form of exercise we know today.

Your First Class – Orientation Workout
Your first class is your Orientation Workout. This gives us the opportunity to get to know you, understand your goals and ensure you are comfortable and confident using the Reformer.
You'll learn how the equipment works, be introduced to the key movements and enjoy a full 40-minute workout — so you get moving from day one!
After your Orientation Workout, you'll be ready to book your 3 Reformer Workout classes, which can be enjoyed over the following 2 weeks.
Small groups. Personalised guidance. Beautiful surroundings. Movement designed around you.
Your Pilates journey begins with a compulsory Orientation Session. During this session, you'll become familiar with the reformer equipment, learn how the springs and carriage work, and be guided through the fundamental Pilates movements and techniques.
This important first step ensures you feel confident using the equipment, understand correct posture and breathing, and can exercise safely and effectively before progressing to our regular classes. Contact reception to arrange this.
