Contraindications to Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone Massage uses heated stones to warm the muscles and promote relaxation. However, it is not suitable for everyone.

For your safety, please advise your therapist of any medical conditions, injuries, medications or health concerns before your treatment.

Hot Stone Massage may not be suitable if you have:

  • Pregnancy: Not recommended during the first trimester. During later pregnancy, treatment should only be provided following appropriate assessment and with pregnancy-safe positioning and temperature precautions.
  • Diabetes: Particularly where there is reduced sensation or peripheral neuropathy, due to the risk of burns.
  • Poor circulation: Including peripheral vascular disease or impaired blood flow.
  • Reduced skin sensation: Nerve damage, neuropathy or conditions affecting temperature sensitivity.
  • Heart conditions: Including uncontrolled high blood pressure or significant cardiovascular conditions.
  • Varicose veins: Avoid applying heat or pressure directly over affected veins.
  • Skin conditions: Open wounds, burns, rashes, infections, inflammation or broken skin.
  • Acute injuries: Recent sprains, strains, swelling or inflammation.
  • Fever or infection: Treatment should be postponed until recovered.
  • Blood-thinning medication: Or bleeding disorders, which may increase bruising risk.
  • Heat sensitivity: Including conditions that make exposure to heat unsafe.
  • Certain neurological conditions: Particularly those affecting sensation or temperature regulation

Your therapist may modify or decline treatment depending on your medical history.
When in doubt, seek medical advice before booking.
